Over a year into the conflict in Sudan, millions have been displaced both within and outside the country. The ongoing conflict has resulted in the destruction of vast agricultural lands, disrupted food supplies due to difficult transportation between cities, and a scarcity of humanitarian aid. In this podcast, IFPRI researcher Hala Abushama discusses the state of food security and agricultural land in Sudan, and the efforts to prevent famine in the country.
Hala highlighted the worsening food security situation due to the conflict, emphasizing the dire security conditions and significant humanitarian disasters in key states that produce sorghum and millet—critical crops for food security. Drawing from IFPRI's Rural Household Survey and Farmers Surveys, she stressed the urgent need for interventions to tackle the looming hunger crisis.
