At the Fragile Lives Conference, organized by Humboldt University of Berlin and ISDC, on September 30-October 1, 2025, in Berlin, Germany, IFPRI Sudan’s researchers showcased critical evidence on social protection programming and resilience in Sudan amid conflict.
Kibrom Abay (IFPRI, Senior Research Fellow) presented a study on the potential of digital cash transfers to save lives of vulnerable populations amid conflict in Sudan, and key well-being outcomes. Hala Abushama (IFPRI Sudan, Research Analyst) presented key findings on the preferences of modality of assistance (in-kind versus cash versus hybrid) by households in IDP camps, with a particular focus on gendered differences in preferences. Khalid Siddig (IFPRI Sudan, Country Program Leader and Senior Research Fellow) presented a study that models the long-term economywide effects of cash transfer programs on poverty, undernourishment, and economic recovery in Sudan using a dynamic Computable General Equilibrium model. Khalid also participated in the Sudan: From Data to Policy panel discussion, with key representatives from Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ, Germany).
