About the Sudan Strategy Support Program
An IFPRI-led Sudan Strategy Support Program (SSSP) will provide needed analytical support to local and international partners.
With a Sudan Strategy Support Program, five potential areas of focus have been identified. These areas will be further refined in collaboration with civil society and non-governmental organizations, private sector, think tanks and international development partners. IFPRI would pursue an agenda informed by a participatory stakeholder workshop at the onset of the program’s launch that would guide research and capacity building activities following a prioritization process.
Main goals of capacity building include:
- Offering specialized training programs to partners to strengthen the skills of their staff in under-taking applied research.
- Linking with key training and technical partners, such as local universities and think tanks to equip future agricultural sector employees and stakeholders with needed analytical capacity.
These goals will require a focus on three key areas for capacity development:
- Building technical skills for research analysis, with local partners
- Best practices with data collection and interpretation
- Economywide modeling, value chain analysis, applied microeconomic research, and experimental approaches
- Expanding functional skills
- Research communication
- Organizational change and learning strategies
- Establishing a knowledge sharing and analysis research network
- Broad-based stakeholder forums to share and discuss research
- Open-access data and expansive dissemination of outputs
